President Peng Qiming Meets Executives from Anglo American

BEIJING,May.11(Chinamining)-- President Peng Qiming met with Ms. Anik Michaud, the Group Director of Corporate Relations and Sustainable Impact of Anglo America. They had an extensive and in-depth discussion on corporate social responsibility and sustainable development of the mining industry, and briefed on 2023 (the 25th)China Mining Conference and Exhibition to be held in October.

President Peng Qiming welcomed the visit of Ms. Anik Mishaw and her delegation. After giving an overview of the China Mining Association, he shared his views on the current challenges and major issues facing the global mining industry. He pointed out that, on the one hand, the mining industry needs to do better in fulfilling ESG standards; on the other hand, people needs to look at mining industry in a more comprehensive and objective way. To this end, he suggested that the they should cooperate to promote education and awareness of mining to younger generation and make progress jointly. At last, he invited Anglo American to participate in 2023 (the 25th) China Mining Conference and Exhibition.

Anik Mishaw echoed President Peng's idea. She mentioned that Anglo American has been committed to redefining mining, not only in terms of how it works and how it generates profits, but also in terms of what impact it brings to the regions and stakeholders involved in the business. Anglo American launched a sustainable mining program in 2018 with the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2040 while reducing Scope 3 emissions by 50%. The Group's Quellaveco copper project in Peru sets a good example of acting corporate social responsibility, actively focusing on and realizing the reasonable demands of the community by communicating with key stakeholders and continuously promoting economic diversification to achieve sustainable development in the mining industry. She also said that the future of the mining industry should be smarter, safer and more sustainable, which requires the industry to utilize precious mineral resources in a holistic, integral and responsible way to create value and benefit society. Finally, she expressed her gratitude to President Peng for his invitation and said that Anglo American looks forward to actively participating in the events related to the China Mining 2023, sharing concepts and practices with Chinese mining companies, strengthening exchanges and seeking more cooperation opportunities.

The meeting was also attended by Mrs. Suo Yaoli, Deputy Secretary General of China Mining Association; Staff of International Cooperation Department, CMA; Mr. Froydis Cameron, Group Head of International and Government Relations; Mr. Jan Klawitter, Head of International Advocacy; Mr. Fu Wu, Director and Chief Representative of China Region and Mr. Wang Fan, Corporate Corporate Relations Manager of China Region.
