2022 (24th) China Mining Conference and Exhibition officially kicked off in the afternoon of September 21, in the form of an online event. CHINA MINING 2022 takes on the theme of Sustainable Mining for Sustainable Economic Growth and aims to enhance resources security and promote economic growth with a prosperous mining sector, through a range of events on supply and demand of mineral products in China and internationally, capital markets of mining, and the exchanges and markets for mineral products.
Mr. Wang Guanghua, Minister of Natural Resouces, Mr. Zhang Gong, Mayor of Tianjin, and Mr. Vaca Narvaja, Ambassador of Argentina to China attended and spoke at the opening ceremony remotely. Mr. Zhuang Shaoqin, Vice Minster of Natural Resources, chaired the Opening Ceremony, which was also attended by Li Jinfa, Party Secretary of China Geological Survey, Mr. Peng Qiming, Chair of CHINA MINING Organising Committee and President of China Mining Association, as well as diplomatic envoys of South Africa, Serbia, Argentina, Zambia, Namibia, Tanzania, Uraguay, Mongolia, Sudan, and Mozambique, who join the occasion online.
In his address, Mayor Zhang Gong said that China Ming is an important annual event in the world of mining. Under the leadership of the Ministry of Natural Resources and all parties involved, the keeps enriching its missions and functions and has become a key platform for international mining professionals to be informed of industry trends and promote exchange and cooperation. Mining is a fundamental industry of the national economy and a support of global sustainable growth. He expressed the hope that all participants would exploit the opportunities of the event to engage in practical cooperation at higher levels, in greater scopes and more fields, to promote the safe, green, innovative and integrated development of global mining, and to write a new chapter in the story of sustainable mining together.
Minister Wang Guanghua pointed out in his address that the world economy was still in recovery, and increased volatilities and uncertainties loomed large over international mining markets. Facing unprecedented challenges, nations of the world must be more committed than ever to working together in seeking cooperation and opportunities for mining. As the world’s largest producer, consumer and trading nation of mineral products, China stands ready to work with all sides in a joint effort to advance the healthy development of the mining industry and promote the recovery, growth and sustainable development of the world economy through opening-up, cooperation and sustainable development. To this end, Minister Wang made the following three proposals: First, implement sustainable development goals and jointly guarantee factors of resources for economic growth. Vigorously boost the production and supply capacity of key mineral resources, roll out green mining in an orderly manner, strengthen exploration and development of new energy and new material mineral assets, accelerate the establishment of demand-supply alignment mechanism for important mineral products, and create complementary industrial and supply chains for the global mining industry. Second, vigorously promote the research and development, application and integration of new theories, technologies, methods, processes and equipment in the exploration and development of mineral resources. Actively implement policy measures to facilitate trade and investment in mining and earnestly promote innovation of mining administration institutions and mechanisms. All countries are welcome to take an in-deep participation in and jointly advance the high-quality development of the ”Belt and Road Initiative”, promote mutual recognition of mining strategies, policies, standards and specifications, enrich in-depth cooperation among global mining enterprises, and drive transformation, upgrading and sustainable development of this industry.
Gustavo Sabino Vaca Narvaja, Ambassador of Argentina to China, addressed the opening ceremony on behalf of the conference co-organizers. He noted that China’s investment in mining is growing rapidly around the world, playing an essential role in the sustainable development of the global mining industry and that Argentina will make continuous efforts in improving both the investment environment and relevant policies, further strengthening cooperation with China and bringing benefits to the two peoples.
Vice Minister Zhuang Shaoqin pointed out in his summary that mining constitutes a foundation for eco-social development, and the transformation and upgrading of the mining industry will unleash a strong impetus for development, continuously broaden new space and bring new opportunities for sustainable development.
This year's conference is guided by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tianjin Municipal People's Government, organized by the China Mining Association and undertaken by Tianjin Minexpo Co., Ltd. The conference is convened in a hybrid format and virtually delivered through the “CHINA MINING cloud platform” from September 21 to 23, and consists of opening ceremony, theme forum, special forum, online exhibition, national pavilion, "Mining Interview" column, workshops and other activities, as well as the online exhibition composed of six sections and with more than 300 online exhibitors.
