Despite global concerns, the first month of the year saw Baosteel Group Corp's 50 billion-yuan ($7.3 billion) Zhanjiang project produce more than 102 kilotons of cold rolled automotive panels for the state treasury, a record for January.

Baosteel Zhanjiang Iron & Steel Co kept its production lines running during Spring Festival, hitting all its targets for steel slabs and hot rolling steel. With monthly output of molten iron exceeding 693 kilotons, the manufacturing base maintains a production rate that is even higher than expected, since it started operation in July 2016.

With great government care and support, Baosteel Zhanjiang pushed itself ahead last year and laid a solid foundation in production and management. The 2030 Cold Rolling No 2 Hot Galvanizing Unit manufactured extremely complicated automobile outer panels, only three months after its loaded test run.

Baosteel Zhanjiang has been in existence for just three years, with its No 1 blast furnace built in 2013 and No 2 in 2016.
