Shanxi is to close nine more collieries in 2017, reducing capacity by 5.25 million tons, according to the Shanxi Development and Reform Commission.
The nine collieries are located in cities like Changzhi, Linfen and Datong.
In May this year, Shanxi set a goal of reducing capacity in the coal industry by 17.4 million tons.
