BEIJING, Nov. 29 (Chinamining) -- Peng Qiming , President of China Mining Association on Monday held a virtual meeting with Rohitesh Dhawan, CEO of International Council on Mining and Metals. Their last contact was during the 23rd China Mining Conference and Exhibition on which Dhawan gave a speech at the keynote session.
Peng said CMA and ICMM should have more cooperation by organizing joint activities and virtual meetings to share industry experience between different countries. Peng also pointed out that it is necessary to change the traditional development model of mining and rebuild its image by realizing a safe, green, innovative and integrated development. It is very important to recognize its importance and remember the contribution that mining industry has made to the society.
Dhawan agreed with the significance of mining industry to the development of the society. He encouraged further cooperation between CMA and ICMM through exchange of views. He also gave a breif introduction about the developing strategy of ICMM, especially the ESG Principles, which incorporate comprehensive environmental, social and governance requirements.
The two sides reached an agreement to have a virtual conference to share views, information and experience about the challenges and opportunities in the mining industry to learn from each other and start a joint agenda in early 2022, talking about what the mining industry should be like in a long term.
The meeting was also attended by staff of the International Cooperation Department, CMA.
